    What comes next is a new treasurer with enormous responsibilities. Our members demand, and are entitled to, fiscal accountability and value for hard-earned dues. What comes next is new medical leadership, guiding an organization responsive to members' needs. What comes next is a comprehensible budget, functionally analyzed, widely distributed. Members must dictate how dollars are spent.

    what comes after is a streamlined, accountable organization, with unity of purpose, fully connected to its members. I ask to become your treasurer because I understand what we need to do and how to do it. I have the energy, experience, and determination to do it well.

    the struggle

    We psychiatrists have struggled courageously to arrest malignancies of health care systems that threaten fundamental precepts. Our intensity cannot diminish.
    We must advance the cause of parity;
    We must resist intrusions into the physician-patient relationship;
    We must protect education, stimulate learning, and incorporate extraordinary scientific advances into clinical excellence available to all of our patients.

    we must do more

    We will survive change only by initiating change. Psychiatrists must take leadership to become agents of change. We must advocate and legislate to contain egregious insults of corporate medicine.

    We must assume responsibility to create alternative systems of care that are ethical, humane, and knowledge-based. Clinicians, academics, researchers, and trainees can partner as a force for good.
